I am excited to introduce myself as a candidate for Alderperson in District 3. My name is Michael Stluka, but most people know me as Indy. I am running for Alder because I am driven by a commitment to have all our voices heard, to better connect and inform our residents about what is going on in City Hall. I am dedicated to building positive and long-lasting community partnerships based on trust that will improve our policies and local government decisions.
My wife and I chose Wauwatosa to live and start a family because the community has such great neighborhoods, people, parks, and public schools. In fact, my wife and both of her parents grew up and graduated from high school here, and I want to make sure that our two sons, and all residents, have the same amazing, if not better, opportunities to enjoy our neighborhoods and public places.
Using my background in data, policy, and risk analysis and management, I will be an active member of the Common Council and introduce, advance, and advocate for policies that neighbors and members of the community have been asking for, as well as other innovative ideas to help our community and budget. I will also be responsive to our community concerns and reply to residents when called or emailed, instead of ignoring or neglecting them.
My community involvement in Wauwatosa includes starting up and coaching our youth and high school girls lacrosse programs, speaking in support of the Wauwatosa East athletic field so that the girls teams would have an equal playing field and opportunities as the boys' team, advocating for neighbors in seeking better development options than a 28-story high-rise tower on the corner of Bluemound and Mayfair (Drew Tower project), and speaking to the Common Council on issues that impact residents.
Outside of Wauwatosa, I was part of the WIAA committee that made lacrosse an official sport in Wisconsin at the high school level, served on local, state, and national committees for lacrosse, served on the Tenant-Landlord relations committee for the City of Madison, chaired neighborhood development steering committees, chaired a joint neighborhood/police/city/student committee focused on partnership for safety issues, and served on other neighborhood committees for various topics. These committees taught me valuable lessons that when people from opposing viewpoints work together to find common ground, better policy and ideas can come forward that both sides can agree on which is something I want to utilize at Common Council.

I look forward to earning your support and, if elected, working for you at City Hall!
